BCS advances the science and engineering of energy efficiency by transforming the way building systems are evaluated, operated, and integrated into surrounding communities, with measurable improvements in resource use, operational efficiency, and occupant productivity.

Our core research capabilities are:

  • Building energy simulation
  • Building performance evaluation
  • Building performance optimization
  • Site energy and water resilience planning

Our team brings together 70 building research engineers, scientists, and program managers with diverse expertise in building mechanical systems, building HVAC controls, data sciences, modeling, and distributed energy systems. We span PNNL locations in Richland, Sequim and Seattle, WA, Portland, OR and Washington, DC, with several team members also embedded with our federal agency partners to facilitate research and technology strategy.
