Alex Davila was born and raised in San Marcos, California. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University where he was also an employee of the U.S. Department of Energy's Industrial Assessment Center program. With years of energy auditing experience in manufacturing facilities throughout southern California, Alex joined the Building Energy Systems Group with aspirations to help reduce the nation’s demand and dependency on energy.

During his years at San Diego State, Alex also served as a design engineer, working on prototyping manual powered teff threshers to improve agricultural efficiency and help alleviate poverty in Ethiopia. The venture won national awards and proved successful, and the team partnered with organizations such as Project Concern International to subsidize and distribute the threshing machines to farmers in the area, ultimately reducing food shortages and allowing locals to be self-sustaining.
